Actually, it’s still Sunday. kthanx.
Everyday is lies and rip off day as long as the Republicans control the U.S. legislature. We know now that the Bush appointee to head up mine safety stated publicly that he was going to “turn off the light on mine safety”. Fines and penalties have gone unenforced and uncollected.
We know that hundreds of millions of dollars are going uncollected for oil and gas royalties/ Oil and gas taken from PUBLIC (that’s yours and my) lands because the Bu$hies have relaxed the rules to benefit their insider pals in the oil and gas industry.
We know that Halliburton has served up bad water to the troops in Iraq, lied about it, and the Republicans refuse to investigate it.
We know that professionals, doctors, engineers, lawyers, i.e., the cream of Iraqi society are leaving in droves because it is no longer safe in Iraq! These are the people needed for the “reconstruction”, which, oh by the way, the Bu$hies are now saying we won’t fund. I guess that makes Colin Powell wrong. Just because the U.S. broke it, doesn’t mean the U.S. has to fix it.

Anyone else get an email from State Sen. Grossman? Looks like this is his last legislative session. Any predictions on who will run for his seat in the senate? Romanoff? If yes, who will run for his seat in the house?

Interesting take on the new line, I’ll look forward to the commentary. But as someone who was at the Otero County Lincoln Day Dinner, if Mr. Beauprez has half the support anywhere else in the state as he did in that room, his tour was anything but a fizzle. Republican party officials can’t take sides in a primary, but you can tell most of them don’t even see a primary since Holtzman continues to attack his own base. Sure MH will pull out his “coronation” talking points, but the simple fact is Beauprez has a LOT of grassroots support in the small towns and communities in Colorado, and after hearing him speak, I’m convinced he’s going to give both the cities and the rural areas a fair shake in his administration. He knows about real issues, like water and not just the Meet the Press talking points, and that’s what it is going to take to be Colorado’s next governor.
Otero gets, what, 9 state delegates? Please. MH ownes Pueblo and is about to sweep up La Plata and the rest of the south central region.
Since MH is going to petition anyway, why should he care about delegates? Even if he goes through the convention, he’ll be lucky to get a single vote outside of Denver and Aspen.
The last I heard from Romanoff on the prospect of running for Grossman’s seat was when Grossman was looking at AG. At that time Romanoff said he was not interested. Don;’t know if he has changed his mind or not.
If Romanoff still is not running, then the likely candidates are Fran Coleman and Jennifer Mello plus maybe one or two more. Does Anne McGihon live in SD32? I know part of her district is there, but not sure which part of her district she lives in. If she is in 32, it would be a good guess she will be looking at it too.
If Romanoff wants the Senate seat, I doubt anyone could stop him from getting or would even try on the Dem side. If his seat does come open, names I have heard for it so far Jennifer Mello again, JW Postal, and myself.
Holtzman is petitioning? That will be very risky for him. The formula to petition on the ballot for a statewide office is somewhat complicated and very hard to achieve. The hardest part is that the candidate has to file a minimum number of signatures from each of the congressional districts as well as reach the statewide numerical level.

Yeah, but Abramoff was also a $100,000 century club donor to the Bush campaign, or whatever they call it. When you’re a big donor like that, you had better believe the candidate (Bush) knows who you are.

Since it involves W, I am going to play it safe and assume the worst. Remember this is the guy who addressed Ken Lay as “Kenny Boy” and then suddenly got amnesia about their relationship.
So, BMR – was it right then, or is it wrong now? I vote the latter (and did when Clinton got funds from good ole’ Johnny, too).
Abramoff repeatedly “sold access” to the President for $25k a shot (and $9mil for a foreign leader’s access…). He is a Bush campaign Pioneer, and there is at least the appearance that Bush demoted a DoJ attorney when he started an investigation into an Abramoff client’s practices. Oh – and Abramoff’s early client in the Marianas is actually a Hong Kong (read: Chinese) national who set up a fake company called “Rose Garden Holdings” through which Abramoff appears to have laundered cash. Shades of Ken Lay indeed; clever names for totally corrupt schemes.
The issue has nothing to do with taking contributions at the White House. It’s about Abramoff being a total crook and any involvement the White House might have had with him. If Abramoff was just another donor who gave big contributions and had access, we wouldn’t be discussing this. Abramoff makes this entirely different.
BMR is using another typical Republican tactic for explaining away bad behavior. They point to some obscure part of the story and try to argue that point, as if that’s what everyone is concerned about. Nobody cares about who received contributions inside the White House. This is about Abramoff and his crooked dealings and the White House pretending that Bush didn’t know him.
Um, I care if Gail Norton received contributions that affected her decisions. I care if Stephen Griles received contributions that caused policy changes. I care if David Safavian was bribed into spending our money where it would not have otherwise been spent. And I care if Bush took >$100,000 to (among other things) demote an attorney who was looking into bribery and slavery in the Marianas Islands.
Maybe BMR is trying to mislead this conversation, but “who had access” is not a worthless question. In fact, if it were just Abramoff bilking the tribes of millions, it wouldn’t be a national scandal. It’s what was done with that money, and who it bought that matter.

My point is that it doesn’t matter when the actual contribution was received. I don’t care if somebody handed over a check at the White House or mailed it to Bush’s house in Texas. That’s not the issue here, but that’s what BMR is trying to turn the argument towards.

If such a bill is introduced are you really opposed to raising funds for charity because of the political affiliation of a handful of the Denver Broncos?
Garcia not only says he will introduce such a bill, he sent out a e-mail with an image of the plate. I bleed orange and blue, but even I think there should be SOME limit to the amount of pandering politicians in this state do. Could Rockies, Nuggets and whatever the heck they call the soccer and lacrosse teams be far behind? How about a special plate for idiots…god knows we have plenty of them, judging by the people we elect to public office.
